An electromagnetic flowmeter (magmeter) measures the flow of conductive liquids using Faraday’s Law of Electromagnetic Induction. It has no moving parts, making it highly reliable and low‑maintenance.
Any conductive liquid with conductivity above approximately 5 μS/cm, including water, wastewater, slurries, chemicals, beverages, and process fluids. Non-conductive fluids, such as oils or gases, cannot be measured.
Minimal. Since there are no moving parts, maintenance is limited to periodic calibration checks, electrode cleaning (if scaling occurs), and verification of electronics.
Standard outputs include 4–20 mA, pulse, and frequency signals, with digital communication options such as HART, Modbus, and Profibus depending on the model.
Models can be supplied with CE, ISO, ATEX/IECEx, and sanitary approvals, depending on the application requirements.
Selection depends on pipe size, fluid conductivity, process temperature/pressure, lining and electrode materials, and communication needs. Yokogawa provides sizing tools and engineering support for proper selection.
